Use Gianna in your browser. There is nothing to install.

Getting started

Go to gianna.chat and sign up with your email or with Google. You can use Gianna immediately. Gianna may ask for useful context early in the conversation; you can answer, skip the question, or make another request.

Finding your way around

The app at gianna.chat/app opens on Today. Its four main destinations are:

• Today: the feast, liturgical commemorations and saints remembered in the Martyrology, followed by your current novenas, open tasks and upcoming reminders. Add a task here or carry a question or reminder request into Chat.
• Chat: talk to Gianna, set reminders, ask a question or make changes.
• Prayer: the overview leads with your current novena, suggestions and a list of prayers. Novenas, Readings, Calendar, Missal, the Office and intentions have separate views. Calendar shows your liturgical calendar by week or month, with each day's celebration, rank, colour and holy days of obligation. Missal gives the whole 1962 Low Mass for any day, with that day's propers, in Latin and English side by side or either alone. The Ordinary Form Missal is not included because its approved texts are under copyright; its readings are in Readings. Readings contains the day's Mass readings and Lectio Divina. Use the tabs at the top to switch views, or Manage routines beside the Prayer title to set a recurring schedule.
• More: Plans, People, Saints, Offices, Relics, Locations, Lineage, Groups, Jobs, Shop and Give. Plans holds tasks, reminders and routines.

Jobs, Shop and Give are marked WIP and disabled for now. Their bookmarks and direct links return to More.

People brings saints, clergy and office holders together. Their profiles lead with their life and retain the relevant saint prayers, relics, offices and episcopal family tree. Existing saint and bishop links open these profiles. Offices shows each role's current holder, appointed successors and recorded predecessors. Follow a holder to his profile or an office from a person's page. Dates and sources are shown as recorded; the history can be incomplete. British Isles office histories include England and Wales from 1850, Scotland from 1878, and Ireland from 1850. Historical dioceses and missionary jurisdictions have linked pages explaining restoration and changes of territory. Appointment and installation dates retain their recorded meaning; a date may be known only to a month, year or century.

Settings, Help and Organisation are account utilities in the sidebar. On a phone, open Account & settings at the top. Settings contains notifications, Telegram, your parish, invitation cards and your account. Organisation access depends on membership. Existing bookmarks still open their corresponding pages, including the older Tasks and routine links.

Light or dark theme follows your taste (toggle at the top), and your conversation persists across reloads and devices — sign in anywhere and pick up where you left off.

Settings → Appearance also lets you switch between light and dark mode.

Managing things directly

In Plans, add, rename, complete, delete, or reopen a task. Upcoming reminders have Edit, Snooze, and Cancel controls. Reminder times in the edit form use this device's timezone. Undo is offered for supported changes; it cannot recall a notification that has already been sent.

In Prayer, browse the novena library, start one or more novenas, offer them for intentions, stop them, and read their history. Intentions can be edited, archived, restored, or permanently deleted. Recording that you prayed for an intention leaves it active. Novena options contains history, stopping a novena and changing its schedule. In Novenas, preview a selected prayer or choose when to start that novena. Open the current novena prayer in its reader or expand All days to review the complete novena. Previewing a suggested novena does not start it. Choose a prayer from the collection to read its text and source details. In Readings, Lectio Divina keeps the selected Scripture passage visible through reading, meditation, prayer and contemplation; its edition and source details remain available throughout.

In Settings, saved memories have Edit and Forget controls. These changes do not offer Undo; forgetting asks for confirmation first. Notification settings show browser permission and let you send a test to your saved device. A successful test request means the push service accepted it, not that the device necessarily displayed it.

Unsent chat text is saved on this device for up to seven days for signed-in accounts. It is cleared on sign-out or switching accounts. Attachments and reply context are not saved, and drafts are never sent automatically.

While you read earlier messages, new replies leave your place in the conversation unchanged. Use Jump to latest to return to the current reply. The message box stays at the bottom of Chat. Attachment, microphone and ? controls sit below it, to the left of the disclaimer. Open ? for example questions; choosing one fills your draft without sending it. Before the answer arrives, Chat shows the current work from Gianna's actual activity events. Expand Activity to review the steps for that request. An interrupted step is labelled accordingly; completion alone does not mean that a change was saved.

In Chat, Ctrl+K or Command+K opens conversation search. Escape closes search and returns to your draft. Press / while reading to focus the message box; typing a slash in a text field works as usual.

On your phone

Gianna works in a phone browser and can be added to the home screen for an installed app view and notifications. See the iPhone & iPad and Android guides.

Without a connection

Once you have opened them on a device, your novenas with every day's prayer, the prayer collection, your intentions and the novena previews you have read stay readable offline. The day's feast, readings and Office are kept for that day only. A notice shows when the copy was saved. Changes, such as marking a day prayed, need a connection. Signing out removes the saved copy from the device.

Affiliate payments

In Settings → Subscription, copy your affiliate code or link. When a new customer joins through it, you earn 20% of their subscription payments for the first 12 months after their first payment. Taxes and refunded amounts are excluded. Payments are made manually. The panel shows signups, earnings, payments received and the outstanding balance. Promo codes can accompany an affiliate link.
